Wine Club Newsletter July 2016

As the fair season wraps up we’re happy to report our wines did exceptionally well this year at the El Dorado and Amador County Fairs and the California State Fair as well. We’ll be sharing these gold medal wines over the next few shipments and I sincerely hope you enjoy them. On Saturday, July 30th and Sunday July 31st the Camino Wine Plaza will be doing the “Dog Days of Summer” which is a fundraiser for the El Dorado County Animal Services. All three tasting rooms will be pouring wine and the pub will have gourmet hot dogs and beer. There will be live music with original songwriters and a wildlife art exhibit, so bring your four legged friend and show your support for a very important county service. For enjoyment this time around we have our two newest red wines, the 2013 “Spanish Creek” Mourvedre and the 2013 El Dorado Momentum. Your credit card has been charged $41.25 for these two selections plus tax and any applicable shipping. If you have chosen to pick up your wine club, you may do so at any time.

The Wines:

2013 “Spanish Creek” Mourvedre

Here’s a well-known grape in the southern part of France, it originated in Spain where it is called Mataro. It’s a slow ripening grape that develops tight clusters of grapes so that it needs good ventilation to avoid rot while ripening. Don’t let the lighter color and body of this one fool you, it’s got a sneaky amount of fruit and spice to it. It’s because of this combination of lighter body and good fruit and spice that I think it works really well with a great variety of different food pairings. We nabbed a gold medal with this at the El Dorado County fair so I guess they liked it too.

2013 “El Dorado” Momentum

Get ready for another round of our flagship wine and what I think is quite possibly one of the best things we’ve put in a bottle in recent memory. The Momentum is always my pound for pound favorite of what I make, but we have really been enjoying this one. Showcasing some of the best El Dorado fruit out there, this blend of Petite Sirah, Zin, Petite Verdot and Merlot keeps the ball rolling on what has turned out to be a very big and rich 2013 vintage. It’s dark, lush and just downright fun to drink. The El Dorado and Amador fairs agreed as this year’s Momentum won a Double Gold at each! Pop this one and see for yourself.

Wine Club price:  $22.50/bottle, $ 270.00/case

Retail price:  $30.00/bottle

We will be bottling the futures of the 2014 Pinotage on August 6th so you can pick them up any time after that. We’ll also be bottling our first Alicante Bouschet, so look for that one in an upcoming shipment in 2017! Enjoy your Summer.
